What do I do with my WIC if I’m moving?

Your WIC card can be used anywhere in Ohio and can be transferred to another Ohio WIC clinic by calling the new clinic and requesting they transfer your case.

Your WIC can also be transferred out of state; however, your Ohio WIC card will not work out of the state. If you are moving out of the state, stop in and ask for a VOC or call and have it faxed to the WIC clinic where you are moving and contact the new clinic. They will give you instructions on how to receive that state’s WIC benefits.

How do I replace my WIC Nutrition Card if I lose it?

Call us at 419-224-8200 as soon as possible and report your card as lost. The card must be locked, and it will be a 4-day waiting period before your card can be replaced. If there are less than 4 days left in the month, the remaining foods will be lost.

Do my WIC benefits roll over from month to month?

No. All WIC benefits left after the last day of the month will be lost.

Do I have to bring my child to their WIC appointment?

Yes. One of the requirements for WIC eligibility is physical presence and the child will need weighed and measured in the office.

In certain limited situations a participant may be exempted from attending a WIC appointment with medical documentation from a physician explaining the reason they cannot attend and including a current height, weight, and hemoglobin. The guardian will still need to attend the appointment and provide all documentation.

What is the “Breastfeeding Infant” item on my food printout?

The “Breastfeeding Infant” item is not redeemable at the grocery store. Every WIC participant must have a “food” item issued and this is a placeholder item for the infant. Mom receives additional foods on her package since the infant does not receive anything from WIC.

How much formula does WIC provide?

WIC provides a supplemental formula package, in which the amount varies based on the age of the infant and the type of formula. You should expect to buy approximately an additional 1-3 cans of formula per month.

Can I have baby cereal or food added to my baby’s food package?

WIC provides infant cereal and fruits and vegetables according to the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations of starting solids at 6 months. We are unable to provide infant solids before this date, even with a doctor’s note.
