Yellow Fever (age 9 months and older)
Yellow fever is a virus spread by an infected mosquito’s bite. Symptoms may include sudden onset of fever, chills, severe headache, back pain, general body aches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness. Severe cases can lead to high fever, yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), bleeding, shock, and organ failure.
- A single dose provides lifelong protection for most people (unless increased risk and at least 10 years since previous dose, per country guidelines).
Typhoid (age 2 years and older)
- Typhoid fever is caused by bacteria called Salmonella Typhi which is spread through contaminated food and water sources. Symptoms may include fever, weakness, stomach pain, headache, diarrhea or constipation, cough, loss of appetite, and/or rash of flat, rose-colored spots. Severe (rare) cases may lead to internal bleeding and death.
- Booster every 2 years as needed for risk of exposure.
Hepatitis A (age 1 and older)
- Hepatitis A is a virus spread through contaminated food and water sources.
Symptoms may include yellow skin or eyes, loss of appetite, upset stomach,
vomiting, fever, dark urine or light-colored stools, diarrhea, fatigue, and joint pain.
Severe cases (rare) may lead to liver failure. - 2 doses (at least 6 months apart) routinely recommended for those age 1 and older.
Those who are traveling before the 6-month window may benefit from the
accelerated schedule (0, 7 days, 21-28 days, and booster 1 year later) for optimal
protection.
