Full Time – 37.5 hours per week

Salary: HIV Educator 1: $21.29-$25.07/hour $41,515.50 – $48,886.50/year
HIV Educator 2: $22.66-$27.63/hour $44,187.00 – $53,878.50/year
Under the direction of the DIS/HIV Program Supervisor, the HIV Educator plans, develops and implements the HIV program, through the provision of HIV risk assessment, testing, counseling and referral services for high-risk populations within an 11-county region, and outreach to targeted populations.
Essential Duties (HIV Educator 1 and HIV Educator 2)
- Provides HIV risk assessment, testing, counseling and referral services for high-risk individuals in community settings throughout an 11-county region and at Allen County Public Health in order to support the Statewide HIV Prevention Program
- Serves as HIV resource person and coordinates a Regional Advisory Group in the funded area and communicates HIV messages through education and outreach in the community through appropriate mediums to promote HIV risk reduction measures.
- Maintains records of program activities and compiles data in order to evaluate program outcomes and prepare and submit required reports on time
- Maintains equipment and program supplies in order to perform duties in an efficient manner
- Monitors program budget and expenditures to ensure efficient and effective use of grant resources
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable Public Employee Risk Reduction Program safety standards that pertain to essential duties
- Valid Ohio Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and proof of auto liability insurance coverage required. Must have a vehicle to use on the job that is in roadworthy condition.
- Must be able to gain access to potential testing sites, e.g. prisons and other secure facilities.
- Awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences, varying sexual orientations and gender identities, and psychosocial issues involved in HIV testing and prevention activities.
Additional Duties (HIV Educator 2)
- As part of the ACPH STI intervention team, HIV Educator will be cross-trained to assist in the event of a regional outbreak of HIV or syphilis, including field investigation, testing and contact tracing.
Qualifications
HIV Educator 1:
Associate’s degree in health or human services-related field required and 1 year related work experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) training completion is required within 12 months of hire.
HIV Educator 2:
Bachelor’s degree in health or human services-related field. Three years previous experience in health, science or health education preferred; or an Associate’s degree in health or human services-related field with completion of CDC and/or ODH-approved DIS training (i.e. Partner Services training) and at least 5 years previous experience. HIV Counseling, Testing & Referral (CTR) training completion is required within 12 months of hire. Passport to Partner Services training completion is required within 12 months of hire.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Occasional overtime is required. Travel within and outside the region is required. Occasional work at night or on weekends. May come in contact with blood/body fluids.

Full-Time Environmental Health Specialist

Environmental Health Specialist-In-Training – $21.29
Environmental Health Specialist – $21.55
Under general supervision of the Director of Environmental Health, the Environmental Health Specialist performs inspections, re-inspections and investigations, and prepares reports which determine compliance with state and local codes and regulations for Environmental Health Services programs
Sample Program Areas of Responsibility:
- Food service operations and retail food establishments
- Sewage treatment systems
- Manufactured home parks
- Private water system evaluations and sample collection
- Public health nuisance abatement inspections
- Public swimming pools and spa
- Animal bite investigations and rabies quarantine
- School environment inspections
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science or related field
- Ability to obtain registration as an Environmental Health Specialist-In-Training, or registration as an Environmental Health Specialist, in Ohio
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and proof of auto liability insurance coverage
Working Conditions: - Occasional overtime, night or weekend hours may be required
- Works within the Allen County Combined Health District; occasional travel outside the county
