Animal Bites

Program Background

Rule 3701-3-29 of the Ohio Administrative Code requires that the Health Commissioner order an animal that has bitten someone to be quarantined (isolated from any contact with persons or other animals) for a period of not less than ten (10) days from the date of the bite.

Biting animals shall not be released from the quarantine unless and until evidence is shown that the animal is healthy and has been properly vaccinated against rabies by a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
