The Environmental Division of the Allen County Health Department helps protect our water, air, food and other resources from contamination while protecting the health of our residents. They also have legal authority to enforce standards for sanitation and safety in housing, businesses, and public places.
Activities in these programs are conducted by Registered Sanitarians as defined in Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4736. Registered Sanitarians are environmental health professionals who apply specialized knowledge and skills in the discipline of environmental health. Their challenge is to protect people from harm and illness that come from the environment. Sanitarians possess the unique ability to link the science of public health with environmental health and protection.
